 Carroll Reed, 85, of Snelling, passed away peacefully at his home this week. Carroll was one of four children born to Carroll and Clara Reed of Panhandle, TX. He started working at a young age to help with the family’s financial needs. He served with the Navy Seabees in Okinawa during WW II. Carroll married Anna Bernadine Maloy in 1953 in Lancaster, CA. They moved from Torrance to Snelling, CA after working 30 years for McDonnell Douglas Corporation. Carroll enjoyed photography, gardening, traveling throughout the southwest, and was open to new experiences. He made friends wherever he went. Red was very involved in the lives of his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. He was a good neighbor who regularly shared his garden’s vegetables.  He was active with the Merced County Area Agency on Aging and other local committees. His family will always remember Grandpa’s biscuits and gravy.

 

Carroll was preceded in death by his wife Anna in 2000 and two siblings: Dale Reed in 1987and Faye Smith in 2011. He is survived by his son Kevin (Marie) Reed of Hollister, daughter Kelly (Douglas) Doty of Modesto / Snelling; 3 grandchildren: Anna (Jacob) Ramirez, William (Shannon) Doty, and James Reed; and 4 great grandchildren: Isabel, Benjamin, Isaac, and Wyatt; and his brother Donald (Mable) Reed.   

Memorial contributions may be considered for HICAP, a Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, 407 Sansome St., San Francisco, CA 94111. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on March 24th at the Old Fisherman’s Club in Modesto. Burial will be with his wife Anna at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery at 12:30 pm on March 26th
