Sue Unruh Pack was born on March 19, 1915 in Newton, Kansas to Susie and Henry Unruh. She passed away peacefully at the age of 96 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson on February 13, 2012. Sue was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Sue attended school in Newton, KS from kindergarten through graduation from Bethel College in 1937. She spent several years as a teacher in Kansas. In 1941, she married George Pack and they shared the next 55 years together until his death in 1997. Sue and George moved to California in 1947 and lived most of their lives in Modesto. Sue was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities including Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Women’s Circles, and the choir. She was a charter member of the singing group Mothers of Note. She was a leader in PTA, including President of the John Muir School PTA and President of the Modesto City Schools PTA Council. She was active as a leader in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She participated in a tutoring program where she taught adults to read. Sue volunteered as a docent at the McHenry Museum and served for several years at the Community Clothes Closet. Sue was an excellent cook, seamstress, and expressed her creativity through original bead design and tatting. In retirement, she participated in MICL programs at Modesto Junior College. She wrote a detailed autobiography, as well as many essays describing events from family history.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband George Pack of Modesto; her sisters Ruth Willard and Selma Fent, and brother Ernie Unruh, all of Kansas. She is survived by her loving sons James Pack of Modesto and Richard (Joan) Pack and grandson Christopher Pack of Turlock; sisters Vi Unruh and Mary Ann Gertsen, both of Kansas.

Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Mortuary. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25 at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 1600 Carver Road, Modesto. Memorial contributions can be considered for the Heifer Project.
