Mar 1919 – Feb 2012

Vi Masuda, 92, formerly of Livingston, CA, passed away peacefully in Morgan Hill, CA after being visited the prior weekend by her three children, seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Vi was born in Elk Grove, CA to Edward and Tsuru Yoshida where she spent her early childhood and completed her schooling. She married Mamoru “Spud” Masuda in 1942 at Fort Sill, OK just prior to his being shipped out with the 442nd Battalion to Europe. Spud and Vi moved back to the family farm in Livingston once the war was over where they lived and farmed 40 acres until moving to Morgan Hill in 2007.

Vi was very active in the Livingston Grace Methodist Church activities and sang in the church choir. She spent much time supporting the activities of her three children in music lessons, competitive swimming, church activities and scouting activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband Spud in 2009 and two brothers Edward and William. She is survived by her two sisters Alice Kurosawa of Long Beach, NY and Maisie Fujino of Gardena, CA. She is also survived by her three children Bill, Chris and Mari all living in California, seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be Monday, February 27 9:00am to 11:00am. A Graveside service will follow at 1:00pm at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, where Vi will be interred with her husband Spud.

Vi was a vibrant and energetic lady. Full of life and busy all the time. You, her family have lots of good memories to carry on with you.

Great memories! I played in a big and during the 1980's. Masudas were our biggest fans and followed us all over the state, the best dancers ever! Sunday evenings Tea Dancing and some times on weeknights too. Many songs ended with Spud standing tall while
Vi twirled under his arm. Their children have much to be proud of.

Sorry for your loss. Your mom was a true motivational fireball. I so remember her at swim meets yelling for you and your sister. She was such a nice lady and so very attuned to her children. My prayers to you and your family

Vi and Spud were such favorites of mine at Modesto Ballroom Dance Club. I enjoyed her laughter and vivaciousness. A very classy lady.
