Andrew Manuel Gavino, 81, of Modesto, California passed away on November 29, 2020 as a result of complications of Parkinson’s Disease.  He was surrounded by his loving family at his current home in Newman, CA, as he drifted off to be with the Lord, our Savior.  He was born to Manuel and Guadalupe Gavino of Manteca, CA on November 9, 1939.  Andy attended schools in Ripon, CA, graduating from Ripon High School in 1958, where he was active in all sports, setting a number of records that took many years to be broken.

Andy was truly a people person which was a great attribute in his many years of work in insurance sales for McVey Insurance in Modesto, CA.  He was a member of the Elks Club and the Sportsmen of Stanislaus Club.  His love of sports as a participant, a coach, and as a spectator was known to all that knew him.  He served as a mentor to many local athletes in his time as a coach of the Aztecas, a Mexican American League baseball team in Modesto.  This love of sports was shared with his family.  He managed to find an athletic field or a race track in every city that he visited from LA/SF/Louisville, KY/NY, NY/Fort Monmouth, NJ/Perth, Australia/Caracas, Venezuela/Dubai, UAE and so many more cities.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Guadalupe Gavino, and his brother, Theodore Arellano of Kensett, AR.   He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Antoinette Gavino, of Newman, CA, and his four loving daughters; Teri Kramer (husband Joe) of Phoenix, AZ, Nina Brown (husband Dan) of Pflugerville, TX, Toni Parson (husband Harley) of Patterson, CA, and Lisa Dillon (husband Jerret) of Newman, CA.  He leaves 7 grandchildren and three great grandchildren along with three sisters and one brother; Lucy Tucker (deceased husband Stan) of Fresno, CA, Phyllis Fieber (husband Marc) of LaGrange, CA, Martha Gavino of Fresno, CA, and Lupe Gavino (wife Rebecca) of Modesto, CA.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 11:00am at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church, 1121 Main St., Newman, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation – Help Speed A Parkinson’s Cure and/or Seva Hospice.
