Arlene Lois Jones

April 1926 – August 2013

Arlene Lois Anderson accepted her invitation to new life at the age of 87 on August 25th at the Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Watertown, Connecticut to Mabel Waugh of Connecticut and Carl Anderson, a Swedish immigrant. The 8th of 9 brothers and sisters, Arlene grew up rooted in a profound faith in Christ, the love of God’s word in the Scriptures, and was a lifelong member of the Covenant Church.

Arlene became an R.N. during World War II and worked in various hospital areas as a nurse for over 50 years. She met the love of her life, Harley Jones, and fell in love at first sight with the handsome young sailor of the U.S. Navy. Arlene and Harley married in 1952. The mother of 7 children, she was preceded in death by her daughter Cindy and her beloved Harley. A lifelong knitter and crocheter, she graced us all with her beautiful hand-crafted creations, from afghans and mittens to Christmas snowflakes to baby clothes. A talented baker, Arlene made all her children’s wedding cakes as well as delicious Swedish cookies and breads.

We also give thanks that 5 years ago, Arlene was re-united with her first-born, Christine Wilde, who was stolen two weeks after her birth and who had searched for her mother for many years.

Arlene is survived by her sister Alice Duncan (Dave) and brother Fred Anderson, children Christine Wilde (Dan) of Turlock, Susan Deschaine (Roy), Steven Jones (Diane) and Peter Jones (Karin) of Connecticut, Mark Jones of Oregon, and Matthew Jones currently of Turlock, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Hilmar Covenant Church on Saturday, September 21st at 4 p.m. followed by a reception in the church’s Family Center. If planning to attend the reception, please RSVP to Chris Wilde at 632-5271.
