Barbara Ann Merritt, 71, of Turlock, died peacefully at her home in Turlock following a long illness.
Barbara was a native of Bronx, New York, and moved to California in 1969 after meeting her future husband James Merritt; they married in 1970 and lived in Turlock for 41 years. She retired two years ago after having been employed for 34 years in the manufacturing department of Medic Alert Foundation in Turlock. Although a transplant from the East Coast, she loved California and the beach in Monterey. She was also an avid sports fan, especially of the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers. She has followed the Giants since her time as a young girl attending the NY Giants games with her grandfather. Barbara and her husband were also charter members of the Mid-Valley region of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America and members of the Central Valley Chapter of Inliners International.

She leaves behind many years of wonderful memories with her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband Jim Merritt of 44 years; one daughter Christine Souza and husband Mike Souza of Sacramento and one grandson. She is also survived by her brother Joseph Richardson and wife Vita Richardson of Whitehall, PA.

Visitation will be at Allen Mortuary on Thursday, Oct. 2nd from 4 to 6 pm with the Recitation of the Rosary at 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock on Friday, Oct. 3rd at 11 am. Burial will follow at Turlock Memorial Park. Please leave memories and condolences at
