Betty Joan Mello

April 1932 – April 2013

Betty Mello, 81, of Turlock, passed away at Brandel Manor. Betty was born in Cowtown, OK to Marion and Mary Reeves during the dust bowl days. They moved to California when she was a year old and settled in the Stanislaus County area. The family moved to Utah for a few years before returning to live in Turlock. She was a single mother of four children when she completed her schooling to become an LVN and worked for 30 years in several hospitals and nursing homes. She loved her career as a nurse, but her greatest love was for her family. An avid reader, she also crocheted and made afghans for all of her grandchildren and some friends. Her strong determination helped her defend her loved ones and overcome obstacles including health issues. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Bill Reeves, Claudia Coleman, Phyllis Martinez, and Mary Sanders. She is survived by her four children: Bobby (Debbie) Borges of Manteca, Larry (Debra) Borges of Manteca, Micky (Gary) Jay of Russelville, AR, and Joe (Sandy) Borges of Turlock, a sister Gwen Reeves of Turlock, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great, great-grandchild.

Memorials in Betty’s name may be considered for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
