Curtis (Curt) was born in Joplin, Missouri, the fourth of five children of Benjamin and Safrona Countryman Chastain. He married the love of his life, Ila Runnells, and was a loving husband for 60 years. Curt worked for many years as an auto mechanic for John Roth Chevrolet and a welder for Merced Dairy Supply. He loved to spend time with his wife and children, especially traveling across country in the motor home he designed and built. Curt was an interesting man and an amazing metal and wood worker who could fabricate anything and never stopped inventing. He especially loved to work on his antique car, Blue Babe. Curtis could always be depended upon to help you out and make you laugh and he will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Curtis is survived by his wife, Ila Chastain; his daughters Kathryn (Rick) Treat and Yonona Roach; his grandchildren Sarah (Jason) Wass and Laura Treat; and his great-grandchildren Sadie, Kallie, and Rhett Wass.

No services are planned. Donations can be made to Alexander Cohen Hospice House c/o Community Hospice 4368 Spyres Way Modesto, CA 95356 in memory of Curtis.
