Eldred Clair Laffin

Eldred “Bud” Laffin, 92, of Turlock, passed away at Emanuel Medical Center. He was born in Albert City, Iowa, one of 8 children born to Harry and Anna Laffin. The family moved to California where Eldred attended Turlock Schools. After high school he joined the Navy and served 6 years during World War II. Eldred served on the USS Arizona and was reassigned a few months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He also narrowly missed the attacks at Subic Bay in the Philippines. After his honorable discharge in 1946 he married Nora Porter in 1947. Eldred was an avid fly fisherman and vacationed in Yellowstone every year. They also travelled to Mexico, Hawaii, and around the United States.

Eldred was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nora Laffin of Turlock; two sons: Dr. James (Ann) Laffin of Hillsboro, OR and Dean (Debra) Laffin of Turlock; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and lots of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Turlock on Monday, April 28th at 3 pm.Military Honors will be at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery at Santa Nella. Memorial gifts are suggested for the Building Fund at Light of Christ Lutheran Church.
