Olson, F pic webNov. 1921 ~ Jan. 2015

Fern went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 14, 2015 at the age of 93. She was born to Harvey and Grace McDaniel in Chowchilla, CA. Her childhood was filled with work and play on her parents’ dairy farm. She began playing the piano at a very young age and added the violin while in high school. Her love for music never waned and she received her degree in music and her teaching credential from La Verne College in southern California. A few years later, Fern moved to Kingsburg to be an elementary school teacher. While on an outing with a young singles group from the Covenant Church, she was introduced to her future husband, Stanley Olson. Together they built their family farm while she took care of their home, raised their four children, and taught in the elementary schools. Music was an important part of their family life. She faithfully served the Lord as choir director, pianist, and violinist at Kingsburg Evangelical Covenant Church. In 2000, she moved to Covenant Village in Turlock after the death of her beloved husband of 52 years. She continued her ministry as a choir director and playing the piano for services at the Covenant Village. Fern was known for her gentle spirit, ready smile, and selfless attitude. She was a devoted prayer warrior, never failing to ask, “How can I pray for you?”

She is survived by her children: Calvin (Eileen) Olson in Modesto; Kathy (Michael) Rossmann in Grand Junction, CO; Joyce (Mark) Koontz in Richmond, VA; and Dean (Joyce) Olson in Santa Clara; sister Ruth Rupel in LaVerne; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley Olson and four siblings.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Covenant Village on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 2:00p.m. Private graveside service will be held at Kingsburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to Covenant Village Benevolent Fund or Covenant World Relief Fund.
