Hazel Mary Corrigan

Hazel Corrigan, 93, of Modesto, passed away at Memorial Medical Center after a short illness. Hazel was born in Sacramento,CA to George and Edna Hunt. She graduated from Redwood City High School in 1937. After high school Hazel worked in the canneries for a short time. She married Gilbert Purcell and they had one daughter. They were divorced in 1945. Hazel remarried Emmett Corrigan in 1959 and they moved to Modesto where Emmett became an editor for the Modesto Bee. Emmett and Hazel were active at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Modesto. Hazel was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading and shopping, and she loved to cook and bake. She became known for her delicious apple pies.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Emmett Corrigan, and three siblings: Frank Hunt, Peggy Risso, and Charles Park. She is survived by her daughter Peggy Longwell (Dale) of Modesto, 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 great, great-grandchildren (one born the day before Hazel’s passing). No services are scheduled for Hazel at this time. Memorial contributions in Hazel’s name are suggested for the American Cancer Society, 1604 Ford Ave, Suite A, Modesto, CA 95350.
