Hershel Terry, 79, of Turlock, passed away at Emanuel Medical Center. Hershel was born in Checotah, OK to Earl and Violet Terry. The family moved to So. Modesto, CA when Hershel was young and he attended Modesto schools. He served in the Army for 2 years at Ft. Ord, where he worked with the maintenance of wheels on Army tanks. He was stationed 5 miles from the H-Bomb testing site in Las Vegas in 1955. After his honorable discharge he went to work for Ford Motor Company in Milpitas, CA for 27 years. He resided in Morgan Hill CA where he raised his 3 daughters. After retiring from the automotive industry Hershel owned and operated a lawn service. He had a heart for God and for people and was known to occasionally provide lawn service without charge for those in need. In July of 1987 he married Oletha Ann Faughn in Hughson. Hershel was a hunter and a collector. He enjoyed horse sales, swap meets, auctions, and flea markets. Hershel and Ann raised chickens, rabbits, dogs, and a pig. He was an active member of the Stockton Sportsman’s Club and the Hughson Assembly of God Church.

Hershel was preceded in death by his parents, a grandchild, and 3 siblings: Mildred Harrison, Otis Eugene Terry, and Sherman Terry. He is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Oletha Ann Terry, their 5 children: Penny (Kenny) Dayton of Modesto, Pam Gomes of Manteca, Judy Cromer of Turlock, Lorena (Dennis) Lively of Citrus Heights CA, and Kellie Bascom of Citrus Heights CA, 4 siblings: Dorothy Scott of Turlock, Henry Terry of Hughson, Leroy Terry of Hughson, and Shara Sexton of Hughson, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Allen Mortuary on Mon, March 9th from 1 to 5 pm. Funeral Service at Allen Mortuary on Tues, Mar 10th at 10 am. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Memorial gifts are suggested for the Stockton Sportsmans’ Club or the Hughson Assembly of God Church.
