Hollis William Dostal

Hollis Dostal, 85, of rural Turlock, passed away at his home with his wife and son. Hollis was born in Tema, Iowa to William and Thelma Dostal. Their family moved to the Imperial Valley of California when he was a young boy. His father died and his mother raised the children on a chicken farm in La Puente, CA. Hollis graduated from La Puente High School attended Cal. Poly in San Luis Obispo while also working on an orange farm. He started driving truck commercially and ended up building his own trucking business.

In 1950 Hollis met Helen Durham through a friend’s wedding. Hollis married Helen, the love of his life, in June of 1950. They have been sweethearts and best friends ever since then. They have enjoyed travelling and attending live music theater together. In their 62 years of marriage Hollis and Helen have loved to spend time together in all kinds of events and activities. Hollis, or “Hollie” as he was known to his friends, was well known, friendly, and recognized for his creativity and innovation.

Hollis was preceded in death by his parents, a son Timothy Dostal, and a sister Ellen Beatty. He is survived by his wife Helen Dostal, three children: James (Elayne) Dostal of Atwater, Shauna (Glenn) Bryers of Soldotna, Alaska, and Mark Dostal of Turlock, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to send a memorial contribution in his name to the charity of your choice.
