Jim Henslee

Jim was born in Fresno, California to Lester and Lucille Henslee on August 13, 1947, the oldest of six children.

Jim was no stranger to responsibility even at an early age.  In 1964 at 17 years of age, he joined the US Navy.  He said, “He knew he didn’t want to work in the fields all his life”.  After four years of serving in the military he met and married Peggy, the love of his life in 1969.  Jim was so proud of his family and soon adding another addition to his pride button was daughter April.

Jim knew the value of family, he loved each one of his children, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren one he didn’t get to meet, the baby boy who will be here in a few months.  They each thought they were his favorite. And they are!!

Jim also knew the value of:

Loyal friends, just ask those who were fortunate enough to be friends with him.

A gentlemen’s agreement, being a person of your word in honesty and respect.

Commitment and hard work — married over 50 years and retired from Gallo Glass after 39 years. Yep, that’s commitment and hard work.

Jim’s storytelling and sense of humor will truly be missed. Though we are very sad he has left us physically, he will live on in all of us through memories, stories and how he affected our lives.

WE LOVE YOU JIM!

Jim is survived by his wife Peggy Henslee, daughter April Patterson, mother Lucille Henslee, siblings Lester Henslee, Gene Henslee, Steve Henslee and Marlene Jobe.  He is also survived by his six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  Jim is preceded in death by his father Lester Henslee and his sister Darlene Butler.

I knew Jim when I served along side of him on the USS Topeka CLG8 .He had already been on board when I arrived as a new recruit. I didn”t know much about being on board a large ship but Jim kind of took me under his wing and showed me he ropes.I will always remember Jim Henslee and how he helped me get used to the Navy living. He always had time to advise me and answer any questions or any concerns. Once a BT always a BT. Rest in peace

Message from the family of a Navy Buddy. Joe Rutter served and worked along side of Jim on the USS Topeka for many years. Sadly, I lost the love of my life, my Joe this past December 16th, 2019. We had met up with Jim & Peggy several years back on a visit to San Francisco for the weekend and then met up again for a Navy Reunion in Long Beach on the Queen Mary. We had such a wonderful time. And the guys were laughing and joking like they were 20 years old again. It was so sad to hear about Jim’s passing. And I would like to think that Joe was standing there waiting for him with a big smile and a strong salute to his friend and his fellow sailor. Rest in peace Jim and God Bless your family always! Diane Rutter (Joe’s wife of 47 years).

  11. JOhnny Butler says

Uncle Jim was ornery like the rest of the Henslee boys, always picking on us ‘Poor Little’ nephews. But that is where some of my fondest memories come from. Thanks for the Indian Burns, Wedges, Noogies and Milking a Mouse (my favorite finger cruncher, ughh).
As I carry on the ornery legacy and have that connection with my own Nieces and Nephews I will always think of my Fantastic Uncles who gave us boys so much enjoyment from being picked on.

Sorry for your loss; Aunt Peg, Judy, April, Grandkids and Great Grandkids.

    Thank you for your service.
    RIP

    Love
    Johnny, Shawna and Family
