Joan Warda

April 1926 – May 2013

Joan Warda, 87, of Modesto, passed away at home after a long illness. Joan was born in Baghdad, Iraq to Sarges and Nanajan Mamashiani. The family moved to Iran where Joan went to school. She continued her education with training to be a seamstress. Joan opened her own dress shop in Abadan. She was a hard working business woman.

In the early 1950’s she met the love of her life, Alexander Warda, and they were married in 1954. They moved to Modesto in 1973. She was hired to be a seamstress at Gottschalks in Modesto and became one of their top sales people. In the 1970’s Joan belonged to the Emblem Club. She was a good cook and a great wife and mother. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Alexander in 2000 and four siblings: George Mamashiani, Gladys Shearer, John Mamashiani, and Angel Mamashiani. She is survived by children: Bani (Susan) Warda of Moraga, CA, Bella (Narsi) Ramazannia of Berkeley, CA, Bendad (Wendy) Warda of El Sobrante, CA, Belona (Abraham) Oshana of Lafayette, CA, and Benva (Jennifer) Warda of Modesto, a sister Alice O’Niel of Yonkers, NY, and eleven grandchildren.

Funeral Service is scheduled for Mar Addai Church of the East in Turlock on Friday, June 7th at 11 am with burial to follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
