June Gabrielle Pool
June Gabrielle Pool
June Gabrielle Pool died at age 94 on October 15, 2014 surrounded by her loving family in Turlock, CA. June was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. As a young woman she pursued a modeling and acting career, which found her enjoying many historic Hollywood events including movie premiers and Academy Award Ceremonies. At age 19, she attended Bliss Hayden School of Acting in Beverly Hills, CA where she met C. Gordon Pool of Turlock. They were married in 1940 and decided to give up their pursuit of stardom and move to Turlock to begin a family.
June became a devoted wife and mother of her three daughters for the next 26 years. Her children remember growing up with a mother who always tried to put fun and festivity into otherwise ordinary days. Cooking a wide variety of cuisine from other cultures and having the family dress in that country’s traditional style, was just one of many ways that June created an air of excitement in the home. Creating “flower ladies” from garden blossoms and a toothpick was another favorite pastime with her children. Her daughters agree, “Our mother always taught us to look for the beauty and wonder in everyday things.”
In the early 1960’s, June and Gordon became full time world travelers, with the passionate goal to circumnavigate the world. For the next 15 years, their adventures took them across North and South America, North Africa, Europe, Egypt, China, Japan, New Zealand and multiple island chains. Truly a gypsy at heart and lover of diverse cultures and people, travel was at the top of a long list of the things June was passionate about.
In the late 1970’s, June and Gordon settled in the Eastern Sierras of California in their home on Silver Lake. There they continued an adventurous lifestyle of skiing, dog sledding, canoeing, fishing and hiking. This natural, mountain region fed June’s lifelong passion for animals and wildlife. She became very involved in animal rescue, including the raising of a great horned owl (Eggbert) from a hatchling to his eventual release back to the wild.
Among June’s many other passions were gourmet cooking, entertaining, art, music, poetry and all the performing arts. She was an enthusiastic donor to Snider Hall at CSUS in Turlock. In addition, June was an avid reader of thousands of books over her lifetime.
For the last 30 years, June has made her home, once again, in and around the Turlock area (including three years at Foothill Village in Angels Camp, CA) where she has embraced the thing she is MOST passionate about…her big, beautiful, fun loving family! Her colorful, playful, beautiful spirit will be deeply and sincerely, missed.
June was preceded in death by her parents Henrietta Wumkes and Frank C. Hoyt and her husband of 50 years, C. Gordon Pool. She is survived by her younger brother Frank Crosby Hoyt of Laguna Hills, CA, her cousin Joan Anton of Livermore, CA, and her three daughters Sandra (Pool) Loustalot of Angels Camp, CA, Linda (Pool) Moore of Copperopolis, CA and Michelle (Pool) Silva of Turlock, CA. June was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
The family is planning a celebration of her life for a future date.
The family requests that any remembrances be made to June’s favorite charity: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) at www.aspca.org.
