Katherine Zollinger

Katherine “Eloise or Kay” passed on March 18th at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, CA. She was born on December 7, 1930 in Southern California. She grew up in Oklahoma where she attended school and became aware of her interest in art. Her first commercial artist job was at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK. She graduated from South Eastern State Teachers College. She met her future husband in Oklahoma and later settled in California. Their son Robert was born in 1957 and was a happy toddler. Her husband Dave graduated from Cal State Fresno, starting up a 40-year agricultural life work.

Kay devoted four years of her life to her work as a skilled commercial artist and was employed during those years by Lockheed Aircraft Corp., FMC Corp., and the US Army. She spent 30 years working as a teacher in the Turlock school system and 2 years in the Clovis school system. She was considered by students, parents, and fellow teachers as an outstanding teacher and a sweet and loveable person.

Kay loved her Lord God, her loving and devoted family, which included a baby girl “Ruthie” by adoption, and all her many friends.

Her parents, Gus Goza and Ruth Goza preceded her in death a number of years ahead of her. She leaves behind her husband Dave Zollinger of Turlock, CA; a son Robert Zollinger of Modesto, CA; a daughter Ruth Zollinger of Monterey, CA; and two grandchildren David G. Zollinger and Kara Zollinger. All of the family will indeed miss her. They so deeply loved their wife, mother and grandmother.

A memorial service will be held in her honor on Sat., April 11, 2015 at 11:00am at the Presbyterian Church on No. Berkeley Ave., Turlock, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be given to the First Presbyterian Church under the “Katherine E. Zollinger Fine Arts Memorial Fund”.

Katherine’s ashes will be added to the family plot of her mother’s in Caddo, OK.
