Kenneth Turner, age 96, passed away at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson on Saturday evening, May 30th surrounded by his loving family. Ken was born in Saskatoon, Saskachewan, Canada to Herbert and Ethel Turner. The family moved to Los Angeles, CA when he was 8. After completion of his education, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1942. He joined and proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII. After being discharged, he returned to the LAPD where he advanced to the level of lieutenant. He retired in 1966. He had a second career at Western (now Delta) Airlines as a security inspector. In 1938 he married his high school sweetheart, Emelia Bois. During their 73 years of marriage they lived in Gardena for 24 years, where their three children were born. They resided in Rancho Palos Verdes for 19 years, and finally settled in Turlock in 1981.
Ken and Emelia graduated from square dance class in 1976 and round dance class in 1978. They belonged to the Ceres Twisters, Steppin’ Pards, and the Rockin W. Rounders Club prior to Emelia’s passing in 2012. They also loved ballroom dancing. Ken was a great family man and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, beloved wife Emelia, son Keith, and his grandson Jeff Younkin. He is survived by his son Larry (Linda) of Idyllwild, CA, his daughter Sheila (Gary) Younkin of Turlock, daughter-in-law Clare, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and his special friend Diane Chittock.
He was dearly loved by many and admired by all who knew him. In honor of his life, memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are pending for a private family inurnment at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA.
