Lou Carlson Tobias was taken home by the Angels on Feb. 14th, 2014. Lou was born to Fred and Anna Schneider in Bristol, South Dakota in 1926 and continued to live in Bristol where she graduated from high school in 1944. In 1946 she married Vern Carlson and two years later they moved to Turlock. They were blessed with two daughters, Sandra and Kathy. After they divorced, Lou worked hard raising chickens and her two daughters on her own. Her home was always welcoming and full of love.
During this time Lou set her sights on getting her real estate license. She achieved this goal in 1968. She became a third partner doing business as DeVito, Swanson and Carlson Real Estate firm and had a passion for helping people. She continued selling real estate for 35 plus years. Lou had such a love of real estate she became President of the Turlock Board of Realtors in 1974, inducted to the Realtor Hall of Fame in 1990 and was “Realtor of the Year” in 1993. She also worked for Endsley and Associates and it was from there she eventually retired.
Lou met and married Paul Tobias in 1973. They enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and their much loved dog “Fritz”. Paul preceded her in death in 1998.
With a wonderful sense of humor (which continued to the end), a cute mischievous smile, Lou always had a good time wherever she went. She loved volunteering at the Turlock Historical Society, but Lou’s greatest joy was spending time with her daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren and her great-granddaughter.
Lou is survived by her two daughters Sandra Carlson and Kathy (Reed) Russell; grandchildren Treva (Patrick) Kirkendall, Evan Russell, Austin Russell and great-granddaughter Eden Kirkendall; sister Marcella Teske and numerous nieces and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Allen Mortuary on Sat. Feb. 22nd at 11 am with a reception immediately following at the Allen Event Center. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Lou’s name to Covenant Care Hospice 1850 Colorado Ave. Turlock, CA 95382.
