Manuel Ruiz Quintana

December 1919 – December 2013

Manuel Quintana, 93, of Gustine, passed away at home this week. Manuel was born in Emporia, Kansas to Longio and Juanita Quintana. He attended schools in Kansas and Montana until age 16. He came to California on the train and worked in vineyards in the Sacramento area, in the shipyards of Oakland, and he worked on the construction of the San Luis Dam. He served in the Army Air Corps 49th Fighter Group during World War II. He enjoyed gardening and music. Manny sang and played guitar in a country western band providing music for a variety of venues. He belonged to the VFW, Moose Lodge, and the American Legion. Manuel was a man of many talents who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Manuel was preceded in death by his wife Velma in 1995 and by three children: Lydia Gomes, Pearl Quintana, Manuel Quintana and George Quintana. He is survived by four children: Robert Quintana of Los Banos, Yolanda Rodriguez of Los Banos, Jerry Quintana of Merced, and Helen Quintana of Merced; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great, great-grandchildren.
