Marilyn M. Morrow
Dec 1923 – Mar 2015
Marilyn Morrow, of Modesto, recently passed away after 91 fabulous years. Marilyn was born in Stockton, CA to Walter and Katherine Pleisch. She attended Stockton Schools, received her Bachelors’ degree from San Jose State and her Masters’ from College of the Pacific (now UOP). She began her 35 year teaching career with 10 years at Modesto High School and completed her calling at Modesto Junior College, retiring in 1979. She was the consummate educator and loved her job, but most of all she loved the kids. Her personality transcended age and opinion differences and led to legions of friendships among former students and colleagues. She married Paul R. Morrow in 1959 in Orland, CA. They lived in Modesto and enjoyed 44 years of marriage until Paul’s passing in 2003. Marilyn was active at First UMC Modesto, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society-Beta Sigma Chapter, the YMCA Wisemenettes and the United Methodist Women. She gave generously of her time and talents to these organizations. She was a gracious, enthusiastic, creative worker, who did not shun menial tasks, nor the resourceful, leadership roles.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her brother Theodore Pleisch and grandson Jonathan Harris. She is survived by family in Fresno, CA; Paula who was blessed to call her mom and her legacy & pride & joy, Matthew was so lucky to call her Grandma. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marilyn’s family acknowledges with gratitude all our friends who have been so supportive and thoughtful during her final months. Marilyn’s friends enriched her life and were so special to her. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.
A Memorial Service will be 11 AM, Saturday, March 28, at First United Methodist Church in Modesto. Please come with a story to share. Memorial gifts may be made to United Methodist Woman-Scholarship Fund, at First UMC, 850 16th St., Modesto, CA 95354.
