Mary Nell Nolen passed away peacefully in Merced on Aug. 8, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born in Sherman, Texas, on March 9, 1926. Mary Nell and her family moved to Planada, CA in 1938. She resided in Planada until 1991 when she and husband Wayne moved to Merced. Mary Nell attended Planada Elementary School and graduated from LeGrand High School.

Mary Nell was an avid gardener and was actively involved with the American Legion Auxiliary in LeGrand and Merced for many years. She performed many jobs over the years including bookkeeper, library technician, Cherish supervisor, activities director, and garden associate. Although she had an extensive work history, family always came first as she was a devoted wife, and mother. Mary Nell loved to dance and had a vivacious and outgoing personality.

Mary Nell was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne Nolen, brother, Robert Coker, and sisters, Ida Petker and Jimmie Hoffman. She is survived by sons Dennis (Beverly) of Merced, Eddie (Betty) of Chowchilla, and Keith of Merced. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Mary Nell will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Wayne, on Aug 29th at 12:30pm. A donation to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
