Nettie Margrette McCleskey April 4, 1947 - April 28, 2022

April 4, 1947 – April 28, 2022

Margrette “Mer” McCleskey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world peacefully, at home with her family on April 28, 2022, at the age of 75.  She was born to the late Herman and Elsie Jones on April 4, 1947 in Turlock, California.

Margrette graduated from Turlock High School and continued to receive her cosmetology license.  She worked for many years at Ingie’s and later followed her dream to open her own salon “New Image”. She enjoyed telling jokes and sharing stories to everyone who was lucky enough to sit in her chair.

Mer enjoyed any time spent with family, especially on Nana and Poppy’s houseboat, at Lucy and Willie’s cabin, Lake Tahoe every July, and many road trips with Mike. She was in a bowling league with her mom and sisters at Divine Gardens for many years.   Mer loved reading books, playing a variety of board and dice games with her family, and working in her yard.

She married Michael Mann McCleskey in February of 1980, and they were married for 42 years. She is survived by her husband Mike; four children Victoria (Jacques) Thebert, Erik (Katie) Schulze, Matthew McCleskey, and Daniel (Nicole) McCleskey; her 6 grandchildren Brooke and Jay Schulze, Cyril and Calvin Thebert, Jameson and Remington McCleskey; and her two sisters Lucy (Willie) Hildebrand and Neva (Lon) Bishop. She is preceded in death by her brother Alan Jones.

One of her most treasured pastimes was playing with her grandchildren. Grammy loved getting down on the floor to play and especially enjoyed the laughter she received in return. There were so many happy and fun times spent swinging on her porch, it was a treat for her grandbabies to get a place next to her, or on her lap. Later in her life, she was led by her love for children to serve her church in the nursery, she loved this time and the children loved her just as much.

There were many things Mer was known for: her love for her family, love for jokes and games, and for her flautas and home-made ice cream.   She will be greatly missed, and her legacy will continue to fill our hearts.

A memorial service will be held on Friday May 6, 2022, 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, 4250 Geer Rd., Turlock, California.

A celebration of life will follow at 2510 El Capitan Drive, Turlock, California.
