Paul Fliflet

Reverend Paul Fliflet

“Pastor Paul”

February 5, 1927 – June 6, 2012

Pastor Paul, beloved minister, mentor and friend to many, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 6, 2012. Pastor Paul dearly loved God, his family and his life’s work of leading people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Paul was born to Joseph Fliflet and Ruth Bakke Fliflet on February 5, 1927 in Barron, Wisconsin. He was the fourth of nine children and spent his youthful years working on the family farm and attending Wisconsin schools until the family moved to Turlock in 1945. The Fliflets were a musical family so Paul was given a guitar at age thirteen, and with much practice and God-given talent, his gifted guitar playing became an important part of his future ministry. He played guitar and sang with brothers, Andy and David, and as “The Fliflet Trio” with sisters, Joyce and Rachel, representing Youth for Christ. Music was also a vital part of the Revival meetings which he held in Northern California and the Midwest in the 1950’s. From 1960 to 1968 Paul served as Youth Pastor and later as Assistant Pastor at Bethel Temple, Turlock. During his ministry at Bethel Temple Paul married Jann Bradfield of Merced on August 5, 1967. Their son, Daniel Paul, was born in 1971.

In 1971 Paul became the Pastor of Calvary Assembly of God in Hilmar. He remained there as Senior Pastor for twenty-three years. With his wife, Jann, working diligently with him, God richly blessed their ministry.

In recent times Paul and Jann have attended Northside Assembly of God in Turlock. Until a short time ago Paul continued his ministry of visitation, soul-winning and distributing food to needy families. He was also an on-call Chaplain at Emanuel Medical Center.

He is survived by Jann, his wife of forty-five years; son, Daniel and his wife, Brandi, of Sebastapol, California; grandchildren, Henry Paul, Joseph Dennis, and Inga Donna; two brothers, Reverend Andrew Fliflet and David Fliflet, both of Turlock; two sisters, Joyce Larson of Turlock and Rachel Larson Friesen of Clovis; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.

A celebration of Pastor Paul’s life will be held at Monte Vista Chapel in Turlock on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Reverend David Larson, Paul’s nephew, will officiate.
