Raymond N. Hamilton passed away peacefully at the age of 94. Beloved husband of 63 years to Hilda Eileen (Ash), who preceded him in death in July 2006. Loving brother to Bobby G of Chico along with two older brothers, one younger brother and sister, already passed. Devoted father to W Ray (Shirley), Bill (Nancy), Ted (Paula), Roger (Christine) and Kim (Mitsue) with seven grandchildren and thirteen great grand children.

He served in WWII as a US Navy instructor pilot and later as an aircraft commander flying wounded back from the Pacific theater and as he said, “never lost a patient while airborne”. After finishing his college education, he taught instrumental and choral music in several Illinois schools, before moving to Modesto in 1956 where he began the instrumental music program at La Loma Junior High and continued there until his retirement in 1983.

In retirement he enjoyed playing golf, travelling, fishing, reading, walking, as well as providing music lessons to young people from his church well into his 90’s. He stocked shelves at the Food Bank one day a week until he turned 90.

His greatest joy was spending time with his five boys and families. A private service was held at Lakewood Memorial Park. Memorial gifts can be sent to the La Loma Band in memory of Raymond Hamilton, La Loma Junior High School, 1800 Encina Avenue, Modesto, CA 95354.
