Richard Orosco

Richard passed away on Sunday with his family by his side. Richard was born in Orange County, California. He was raised by his loving Tia Sophie Serna. He graduated from Turlock High School and then joined the Marine Reserves. He enjoyed working over the next 35 years for Denis Dodge and Guyett Motors in Turlock. He shared the same love for baseball as his dad, Paul. As Richard got older he was a member of the Ports Auto Club and promoted dances. In 1966, he met the love of his life, Karen Bettencourt. They were married in November 1967. They moved to Hilmar in 1976. Together they raised three wonderful children; Richie, Kevin and Lisa. Richard spent all his free time being a devoted father. Richard was a mentor to many children in the Hilmar Community. He coached for Hilmar Packers, Hilmar Little League, Hilmar Softball and was also a Boy Scout Leader. Many members of the Hilmar Community have found memories of Coach Orosco. On May 2, 1992 Richard suffered his first heart attack which took him on a 23 year journey. During this journey he received a heart transplant on September 13, 1993. Richard amazed every doctor with his strength and courage. He was determined to fight to be here for his eight grandchildren. In spite of his health problems, he was a diligent grandfather and attended every football, baseball, softball, cheerleading and countless other events to support each and every one of them. Richard loved spending time with his family. He loved taking his children on camping trips. He is also known for his love of the San Francisco Giants.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Karen Orosco. Children; Richie and Athena Orosco of Hilmar, Kevin and Bernadette Orosco of Hilmar, and Lisa Ramirez and Shawn Jantz of Turlock. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Teven and Tara Orosco, Taylor Orosco, Corey Adams, Alissa Orosco, Trent Orosco, Nicholas Orosco, Joshua Ramirez and Kara Ramirez, Great-Grandchildren; Miss Emily, Nolan and Max. He was especially excited for the arrival of his next great-grandchild due in September. Richard also leaves behind two brothers; Ronnie Serna, Paul Grijalva Jr., two sisters; Susie Pulido and Paula Saldana. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; Mary Orosco, Paul and Christine Grijalva. Brothers; Alfred and Albert Grijalva, Russ Serna and sister, Linda Moreno.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 23rd from 3 to 7pm followed by a Rosary at 7 pm at Allen Mortuary in Turlock. A mass will be held on Friday, April 24th at 10am at Holy Rosary Church in Hilmar. Interment will follow at Turlock Memorial Park.

Remembrances can be made to Hilmar High Football Boosters or Hilmar High Baseball. Our family would like to give a special Thank You to the doctors who stood by our side throughout this journey; Dr. Haeusslein, Dr. N. Hundal, Dr. Soni, Dr. Korsuri, Dr. Eldaly, Dr. Santos, Dr. S. Liu and Satellite Dialysis.
