Shirley Hill passed away suddenly on July 21, 2014 in Turlock. Born to Melvin and Pearl Horine in Modesto, CA, she spent most of her life in the Turlock-Denair area.
Shirley’s life centered on family, church and music. An accomplished pianist, her greatest joy was to use her gift for God. She never sat in a church pew since her permanent seat was on the organ or piano bench. Her academic achievements include being named valedictorian twice during her educational career and receiving a lifetime membership with the California Scholarship Federation.
In Shirley’s life, family was her greatest fulfillment. Beginning with her daughters, she and her husband Dean, enjoyed four generations leaving a legacy of love, commitment and faithfulness.
Shirley is survived by her husband Dean Hill, brother Robert Horine; daughters Judy (James) Allen and Kathie (Joseph) Wright; step-children Michael Hill, Linda Hill Mobley, Janet (Anthony) Watts-Clement; grandchildren Brian Allen, Shirley Spycher, Laura Allen, Sheri Icedo, David Worstell and Steven Worstell; step grandchildren Matthew Watts, Rachel Watts, Jessica Watts and Molly Mobley, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great, great-grandchildren. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Pearl (Beth) Horine, and sisters Annetta Cochran and June Thomson.
A Celebration Service will be held at Berkeley Avenue Baptist Church, 2813 N. Berkeley Avenue, Turlock, Saturday August 2nd, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, celebration contributions can be made to Berkeley Avenue Baptist Church.
