Toshimi Ted Tateyama

Ted Toshimi Tateyama, fondly known as “T,” passed away in Turlock, California on July 4, 2013. Ted was born in Lahaina, Hawaii, the eldest of six children born to Satoru and Satoki Tateyama. He married Nancy (Nobue) Murayama on February 3, 1946.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years; son Miles (Ellen) Tateyama and daughters Karen (Marion) Sniezek and Chris (Martin) Angell; grandchildren Joseph (Tamara) Sniezek, Christen (Dean) Thompson, Brian Angell, Emily Angell, Philip Tateyama, and Jeffrey Tateyama; great grandchildren Alex Sniezek, Aaron Thompson, Sophia Thompson, and Ella Sniezek; sisters Amy (Hiroshi) Nakasato, Pat (Harold) Hirashima, and brother Chuck (Gloria) Tateyama.

Ted graduated from Lahainaluna High School in 1939. In 1952, he left Maui and moved his family to Lompoc, California, and worked for Johns-Manville until he retired as a plant supervisor. Ted and Nancy settled in Turlock in 1994 where he was a member of the Livingston United Methodist Church and the Cortez Karaoke Singers. Ted enjoyed fishing, cooking and working in his vegetable garden. He will be remembered for his yaki-udon, salsa, barbequed teriyaki chicken, and specially seasoned rolled roast and tri-tip.

A celebration of life will be held on July 20 at 11 a.m. at the Livingston United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Ted’s name to the Livingston United Methodist Church.
