William Cox Thornton Jr., 67, died at his home in Hughson, CA of complications from liver and kidney disease.

Born in Reno, Nevada to William Cox Thornton Sr. and June Thornton, he spent his childhood in Chico & Napa. Cox graduated from Napa High School in 1965 before continuing his education at California State University Stanislaus. He proudly served in the Army from 1967 until 1969, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He married Barbara L Tallman, in 1971, and shared over 29 years of love and companionship.

Cox was a proud and respected teacher at Cardozo Middle School, in Riverbank CA., where he taught for the majority of his career until retiring in 2008. During his career he received numerous awards and accolades. Cox was an active member of the Riverbank Masonic Lodge #459 F&AM where he served as Master numerous times. He also was a member of many Masonic associated organizations.

Cox is survived by his children William Cox Thornton III (son), Kelby Thornton (daughter) Tamara Thornton (daughter in law) and Alina Thornton (granddaughter). He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Thornton.
Cox will be missed for his loud booming voice, sense of humor, and his ability to tell a good story.

Memorial Services with Military Honors will be held at 2 pm on Friday, 30 January 2015 at Riverbank Masonic Lodge, 6707 2nd Street, Riverbank CA 95367
