Franklin Bratcher
April 14, 1940 – September 4, 2026
Franklin Bratcher, age 86, of Turlock, California, passed away on September 4, 2026. Although his family knew his health had been declining, they were not prepared to lose him so soon. His passing leaves a deep emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him and were fortunate enough to share in his life.
Franklin, lovingly known as Frank, was born on April 14, 1940, in Caruthersville, Missouri, to his parents, Jessie Bratcher and Benjamin Harris. He grew up in Caruthersville and graduated from Caruthersville High School.
Frank proudly served his country in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of E-6. During his Navy career, he served as a Damage Controlman, a role he carried out with dedication and pride. His military service took him to many places throughout the world, including Japan and Hawaii, and included time serving at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, a place that held special meaning and became part of the many Navy stories he later shared with his family. He also served aboard Navy vessels including the USS Kearsarge.
Frank ultimately concluded his Navy career aboard the USS Ashtabula, retiring after many years of dedicated service to his country.
Frank remained deeply proud of his Navy service throughout his life. He especially enjoyed sharing memories from those years with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, giving them a glimpse into the places he had been, the experiences he had lived through, and the life he had built before many of them were born. Through those stories, he was able to pass down pieces of his life and history to the generations who came after him.
Following his military service, Frank worked as a welder, a career well suited to his strong work ethic and dedication. Those who knew Frank will remember his ornery sense of humor, his ability to make others laugh, and especially the moments when he would laugh so hard that tears would roll down his face.
Frank also loved spending time outdoors. Some of his most cherished memories were made during his summer trips to Wisconsin, where he enjoyed fishing and canoeing with his son Bobby. These simple moments spent together became some of the memories his family will always treasure.
Frank shared many wonderful years with his beloved wife, Beverely. The two were married in Reno, Nevada, in March 1972, beginning a life together filled with love, companionship, hard work, laughter, and many shared interests.
Frank and Beverely enjoyed participating together in a bowling league, where they built friendships and made many wonderful memories over the years. They also shared a tremendous love for gardening. Their garden was far more than a small backyard project, growing to more than an acre in size. Together, they spent countless hours planting, tending, harvesting, and caring for it. Their garden became a true labor of love and a reflection of the life they built together side by side.
Family was always at the heart of Frank’s life. In earlier years, he especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer, proudly supporting them from the sidelines and simply enjoying the opportunity to be there for them. Those games became another way Frank stayed involved in the lives of the people he loved and created memories his grandchildren will always be able to carry with them.
During the final five to six years of his life, Frank lived with his daughter Leslie, where he was surrounded by family and the comfort of home. As he grew older, Frank did not get out as often as he once had, but he continued to find happiness in the simple things. One of his greatest joys was seeing his great-grandchildren. Their visits, laughter, and time spent together meant a great deal to him. Even during the quieter years of his life, being surrounded by the younger generations of his family brought him happiness and gave him moments to cherish.
Above all else, Frank cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His deep love and commitment to his family could be seen throughout his life. Whether through the stories he shared, cheering on his grandchildren from the sidelines, laughing with those around him, spending time outdoors with family, or simply enjoying visits with his great-grandchildren, Frank left a lasting impression on generations of his family.
Frank is survived by his children, Leslie (Steve) of Turlock, California; Bobby (Connie) of La Crosse, Wisconsin; Suzette (David) of La Crosse, Wisconsin; and Claudia of Tennessee; his grandchildren, Justin, Brittany, Elizabeth, Riki, David, and Amber; his great-grandchildren, Karter, Kinsley, Kole, and many more beloved great-grandchildren, extended family members, and loved ones who will continue to carry his memory with them.
Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverely; his sons, Craig and Donnie; his brothers, Dyson and Johnny; his parents, Jessie and Benjamin; and other loved ones who passed before him.
Frank will be remembered for his service, his strength, his ornery sense of humor, the stories he shared, the laughter he brought into a room, and most of all, the love he had for his family. The life he built and the memories he leaves behind will continue through the many generations who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Fair winds and following seas, Frank. Your watch is complete.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Sunnyside Cemetery in Stevinson, California at 12:00p.m. Military honors will be presented in recognition of Frank’s honorable and dedicated service to his country and the United States Navy, as family and loved ones gather to remember his life and lay him to rest.
