Mother Charlene Tyus was born to Charles Tyus and Ruth Phillips in Santa Barbara, California.  Charlene graduated from Ravenswood High School in 1966.  Charlene worked for 20 years at Pacific Bell before she became ill and couldn’t work anymore.  She did pursue a higher education in theology.

A “Mother of the Church” since 2006, Charlene had a masters in theology (2014) and a doctorate in theology (2017), was a straightforward, honest person who liked to bowl, cook, read, watch the Hallmark Channel and do crossword puzzles.  Charlene had an “open door policy” for everyone, was strict and very loving all at the same time.

Charlene Jessie Tyus, a loving mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 8, 2018.  Charlene has joined her parents Charles and Ruth Tyus and stepfathers Curtis Mardis and Samuel Pierre Sr.; siblings Gloria Jean Hogan, Josephine E. Lee, Oliver Allen Frances II, Diane Victoria Erving and Eileen Roxanne Grimes, and son Jahmal Page in heaven.

Charlene is remembered by her siblings Ruby Joseph, Ruth Lee Rhone, Ella Rose (David) Harris, Samuel Pierre II, and Dennis (Leonor) Pierre; her sons Curtis Francis and Di Andre Page; her grandchildren Tamashia Cody, Shante Francis, Sharenisha Francis, DeShonn Francis, Akala Francis, Makiya Francis, Jailah Francis, Curtis Francis, Jr, Cherelle Lambert, Jamelia Page, and Mailena Page; and her great grandchildren Nevaeh Boyd, Chemari Lambert, and Zaelyn Lambert.
