Oct. 1935 – Jan. 2021
Gene “Vic” Fletcher passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2021.
Vickie Gene married his high school sweetheart Nadene Sweeten on Christmas Eve of 1954. They shared 59 years of marriage until her passing in 2014. He is also preceded in death by his parents E.V. “Slim” and Rilla (Tanner) Fletcher, and great grandson Tanner Eugene Woods.
If you were a co-worker you knew him as Gene. Family called him Vic. Nadene called him Vickie Gene. But I just simply called him Dad.
Born in Rochester, TX, his family made their way to California settling in the Turlock area. He was a graduate of Turlock High School Class of 1954. Gene began his working career at Snider Lumber Products while still in high school, retiring after 35 years. He then worked at Rudy’s Industrial Supply for 10 years. Then another 10 years delivering building and lumber supplies for Valley Distributors.
He and Nadene enjoyed many fun and special trips traveling with brothers Kenny, Bobby and their spouses. On their many journeys they always had a wonderful time mixed with a little bit of trouble.
Gene taught himself to paint cars at home while restoring many classic cars and trucks. He was the only person we knew that could sell a classic car for far less money than he put into it and still be happy, moving on to the next build just to do it all over again.
Gene was a lifelong member of the Turlock Church of Christ.
Vic is survived by his children Mike (Janet) Fletcher of Turlock, Danny Fletcher of Turlock, Jimmy (Ally) Fletcher of Denair, and Linda (Mike) Summerlot of Turlock; his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. He is also survived by his brothers Bill (Bridget) Fletcher of Sacramento, Kenny (Mary) Fletcher of Delhi, and Bobby (Ellen) Fletcher of Turlock; his one sister Jane Spurlock of Arkansas; several nieces and nephews that knew Uncle Vic and Aunt Nadene and loved them dearly. The door was always open.
Visitation will be at Allen Mortuary on Jan. 16, 2021 from 10:30-11:30am. A graveside service will follow at Turlock Memorial Park at 12pm. Masks and social distancing are required for both the visitation and service. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no reception at this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Hughson Christian School, 1519 Tully Rd., Hughson, CA 95326, or to the charity of your choosing.
The family would like to thank Turlock Covenant Care at Home for the time and loving attention given to Eugene.
