Karon Henrietta Potter (née Brown) passed away peacefully at home on July 16, 2026, surrounded by her four adoring children and loving husband, Melvin. Karon was born to Francis “Brick” Luther and Geneva Irene (née Gray) Brown on February 18, 1946, in Stockton, CA. She was the eldest of the family and the only daughter. Both her parents preceded her in death. Karon met Mel at Modesto Junior College in 1964. They married a short time later on September 3, 1966. After their nuptials, Karon and Mel moved to Utah, where they both pursued higher education and graduated from Brigham Young University. Karon worked while in Utah so Mel could attend BYU, but completed her education at Stanislaus State, graduating with a major in music. While in Utah, they welcomed their daughter Amy. The young family returned to the Central Valley, settling in Denair. Karon and Mel added Derek, Rhonda, and Kyle to their family.

Karon was a gifted pianist and shared her talents with hundreds of children throughout the Central Valley. Not only did Karon instill a love of piano and music in her family, but she also instilled it in her students. Karon brought out the best in her students, challenging them and supporting their talents. Her commitment to teaching piano remained with her until her final days. Karon’s commitment was not only to her young charges. She attended church services with Mel every Sunday until her health concerns became too great. Karon was the organist at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for many years. She was a member of the choir and taught Girls’ Camp for several years, loving every moment.

Karon was often bitten by the travel bug and visited England, China, etc. She explored several states as well, highlighting Alaska and Hawaii as favorites. Karon enjoyed visiting friends and family. Karon was creative, not just with music. She enjoyed sewing, painting, and gardening. Her creativity was contagious, and she inspired others to become the best versions of themselves.

In addition to her husband, Karon leaves behind her children and their spouses: Amy Dotson (James) of Turlock; Derek (Ami) of Turlock; Rhonda Gibson (Herbert) of Oakdale; and Kyle (Erin) of Denair. Karon is also survived by her three younger brothers: Keith (Joan) Brown of Salt Lake City, Utah; Frank Brown of Modesto; and Steve (Christine) Brown of Modesto. Karon loved her 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They will undoubtedly miss their “Elmo.” Her eldest grandson, Ashton, awaits her arrival in God’s Kingdom. Extended family members and family friends were also blessed by Karon’s unwavering love and support.

Services for Karon will be held at the Latter-day Saint Stake Center on Geer Road on July 31, 2026, beginning at 10 AM.
