Richard Joseph Silva
1953 – 2026
Richard Joseph Silva passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, at his home in Hilmar, California.
Richard was born in Patterson, California, and raised in Crows Landing. In 1967, he made Hilmar his lifelong home, where he graduated from Hilmar High School, proudly serving as Student Body President. During his high school years, he was deeply involved in FFA and developed a lifelong passion for agriculture, especially showing Registered Holstein cattle.
Richard remained devoted to his community throughout his life. He was an active member of Y.M.I. Holy Rosary Council #44 currently serving as First Vice-President and helped on every committee and fund raiser, served as one of the Directors of Hilmar Historical Society and the Antique Tractor Club, preserving and celebrating the area’s rich heritage. His faith was central to who he was. A dedicated parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar, Richard generously gave of his time, recently teaching CCD classes and supporting parish life in every way he could.
He enjoyed following football and baseball and valued the friendships and fellowship that came through sports, farming, and church activities. Richard will be remembered for his steady presence, servant’s heart, and deep love for his community and faith.
Richard is survived by his sisters, Bernadette Buehner and Elizabeth Finseth; one niece; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Rosmary Silva, Frankie Silva, Michael Silva, Timothy Silva, and Kathleen Silva.
A Rosary and Mass will be held at 10:00a.m. Friday, February 27, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar, with interment to follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman, California.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Building Fund, 8471 Cypress Street, Hilmar, CA 95324.
