Christy Lynn (Minehart) Costa
May 29, 1977 – September 14, 2021
It is with much love and profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Christy Lynn (Minehart) Costa. Christy died September 14, 2021 after a heartbreaking battle with Covid-19.
Christy leaves behind her loving family: Marina, her wife of seven years, three children: Cylus, Lillian, and Gilbert, her Mom and Papa: Larry and Diane Haugh, and father Mark Minehart (Janet). She will be deeply missed by her siblings A. James Minehart (Anastasia), Eric Haugh (Roshan), Bret Deck-Haugh (Richard), Mark D. Minehart, and Zachary Minehart . Christy also leaves behind many loving friends.
Christy was born in Wiesbaden, Germany. She spent the first years of her life in Central Texas before moving with her family to California. Christy was a California girl at heart; she especially loved the coastal towns with access to the beach and ocean. Christy wanted to give her children an experience filled life. She and Marina took them on many trips, some just a short weekend, others a couple weeks. Little did we know those memories would have to last a lifetime.
Christy was a 1995 graduate of Turlock High. She went on to receive an Associate of Arts degree from Modesto Junior College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Master’s in Public Administration from California State University Stanislaus. Christy was employed by Stanislaus County for the past 22 years, working in various departments the most recent being Community Services Agency.
Christy’s life was tragically, and unnecessarily, cut short by covid-19. Christy was one of the individuals with a suppressed immune system due to treatment for an auto-immune disease (Neuromyelitis optica [NMO]). She was vaccinated and took precautions. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough. If you truly want to honor Christy, get vaccinated and wear a mask. Everyone who can be vaccinated has a moral obligation to protect those who are at the greatest risk and prevent the spread of this horrible virus.
A celebration of Christy’s life will be held on October 23 at her parent’s home. Information on the specifics will be shared out at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation, dedicated to funding research needed to treat and cure NMO (guthyjacksonfoundation.org), or the Monterey Bay Aquarium (montereybayaquarium.org).
