Oct. 1945 – March 2020
Ellen Sue Davidloo was born in Thermopolis, Wyoming on October 1, 1945. Her family moved often due to her father’s work for an oil company. Ellen, with her mother and brother, eventually made their residence between Cisco and Dallas, Texas. Ellen spent a large part of her youth surrounded by her grandmother, aunt and uncle, as well as other family members. During her high school years, Ellen attended an all girls Catholic boarding school in Dallas. There she realized her passion for singing and appreciation for music. A nun at Ellen’s school, Sister Saint John, instilled a platform of devotion for the Catholic faith that Ellen carried throughout her life.
Later Ellen moved to Los Angeles, California with her mother and step-father. There at a friend’s engagement party, Ellen met the man she would marry. On July 2 in 1966, Ellen and Zaya exchanged vows of love and commitment. They went on to create a loving family of four children and later, seven grandchildren. Ellen worked as a teacher’s aide for the Long Beach Unified School District for over 10 years. Ellen and Zaya always dreamt of making their final home in Turlock, to which they did in the year 1989. This is where Ellen resided for the last 31 years of her life.
In Turlock, Ellen renewed her passion for singing by joining the Townsend Opera Players and casts such as Man of La Mancha and performed music by Handel’s Messiah. She also reestablished her conviction of faith by becoming a parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. With her love of singing, Ellen joined and later became director of the English choir. She was a eucharistic minister and participated in worship groups, as well as many church functions. Sharing her passion of singing, Ellen established and directed the children’s choir. Ellen devoted much of her time to the church, cherished each and every friendship she made, and completely loved being a part of OLA’s parishional family.
After a diagnosis of cancer in January of this year, Ellen passed peacefully in the early hours of March 30, 2020. Ellen is preceded in life by her mother Ellen and her father Wayne Steinman. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Zaya Davidloo; daughter Michelle (Christopher) Wincek of Mission Viejo, CA; son Daniel (Alexi) Davidloo of Long Beach, CA; daughter Kristann Betmaleck of Huntington Beach, CA, and daughter Carolyn (Craig) Walters of Turlock, CA. Ellen will forever be loved and missed by her grandchildren Briana and Caleb Norman; Chase Walters; Adam and Kate Wincek; and Jaden and Kelly Betmaleck.
