Jeanette gave life to everything around her. She was a vibrant soul who found a way to make so many of us smile — just at the right time. She welcomed me into her home countless times as a kid. She kept such a cozy home. She had a disarming, hospitable way of making me feel comfortable and more importantly: seen. One time I went down the waterslide at Jeanette’s backyard pool, and the roughness of the slide (having not been used in a while), ripped the back of my swim shorts. The kids were laughing at me as I didn’t know you could see my behind through the shorts. Jeanette saved the day, taking me inside for new swim trunks, making jokes and distracting me in a way that made me forget I was being made fun of in the first place. She had a superpower. Growing up in the country, it was comforting knowing someone like Jeanette was just around the corner. Her ministry to me as a teenager in youth group was selfless, filled with countless moments of fun and spontaneity. I will never forget her laugh. It’s comforting thinking how anyone who remembers her will smile big, and for that reason (amongst countless others, Jeanette is absolutely resting in power.
