Lavonne Janet Wingett, a beautiful fun-loving, optimistic woman and child of our Living God, passed away suddenly this week.

Born in Turlock, California and grew up in Hilmar, Lavonne had an inquisitive mind, was a people person, a great conversationalist and always had a smile on her face. She loved to cook and was most definitely into Bay Area sports as she was a huge Giants, Warriors and 49ers fan!

Lavonne was co-founder of Studio Di’von Beauty Salon on East Main Street in Turlock with Diane Landmeier which opened in 1996. Clients would drive over a hundred miles just to have their hair cut by Lavonne.

Most of all Lavonne was “the glue” of her family. She was a grand communicator and was aware of what was going on with everyone in the family. She loved her family with all her heart and she will be deeply, deeply missed.

Lavonne has been reunited in Heaven with her husband Fred, her parents Martin and Olivia Nyman, brothers Delton, Loren and twin baby brother Leon Nyman.

Family that Lavonne will see again one day include her sister Marge (Dick) Nystrom, brother Lloyd Nyman, sister-in-laws Kathy and Linda Nyman and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Private Interment will be held at North Hilmar Cemetery.

Contributions in memory of Lavonne can be made to Hilmar Covenant Church “Missions”, P.O. Box 340, Hilmar, CA 95324.

Lavonne, It was an honor to be part of your life. I could spend quite a long time speaking of all the kindness you extended to me over my lifetime.
I’m thankful for our unexpected meeting a couple of months ago. I’m recalling it in my mind right now and remembering your smile warms my heart. I love you.

Lavonne was a very special lady. I was the flower girl when she and my brother fred were married. She was fun loving, giving, caring and a wonderful person who my boys loved.so many fond memories of camping, fishing, houseboating, skiing, boogie boarding and lavonne at the helm of their boat. She cut my hair for years and my boys and would never let me pay her. She was a great cook and Baker and her cookies and swedish pastries were always a favorite at Christmas. She was one of a kind, and she remained a large part of our family even though fred died so young. She loved talking to the boys and mike about the giants and the niners and actually took the boys to some games of which they loved. I know she is at peace and reunited with fred and the rest of her family with our heavenly father. She will truly be missed and always be part of our lives and forever in our hearts. We will truly miss you and you hearty laugh and sweet smile. We love you

I have known Lavonne for almost 40 years and probably 30 of that she has kept me looking fashionable and fabulous! I would sometimes beg her to come by my house every morning since she drove by my street anyway, and take care of my hair. We would laugh and she would tell me she would if she could. That was how big her heart was.

I know from her stories how much she loved and cherished her family. Yet she was always surprised and overwhelmed when they would do things for her such as her surprise birthday trip in San Francisco last year to see the Giants.

My heart aches with your loss but as they say I know you are reunited with Fred and your parents and other family members, and that everybody’s hair is going to look terrific! Those of us left behind will grieve our loss but we are comforted to know that we will see you later.

Rest well my friend, be free of pain and know that you touched so many lives here on Earth. You were always a bright spot in my life and I am a better person for having had you in it. Love and hugs my friend until we meet again.

Lavonne started doing my hair about 49 years ago. I knew her through her joining the Wingett family. Always looked forward to our visits, catching up on her adventures, her “bragging” rights on her nieces and nephews. She always had a smile and a kind word no matter what. When I moved to Oregon, she’d laugh when I would call and make my appointment on my next trip down.
I will definitely miss my trips to the salon and visits with Lavonne.

  6. Susan M. Smith says

Every month always on a Monday for years Lavonne and I had a haircut date. My haircut was almost an afterthought as we caught up on everything. I almost feel like I know all of you. Oh how much she loved being a part of the fab 5! I heard all about your adventures and your trips. She glowed when telling me about them. Also her trips to Carmel to visit her sister. We talked gardens, relatives, sad and happy times. She always had a family story, told with a smile and love. I always left your shop smiling. Lavonne, you were one of a kind. I will miss you. Condolences to your family and the now fab 4.

  7. Gloria LaFata says

Every Fall, for 14 years, we 5 cousins, Val, Barb, Corky, Lavonne, and I, Gloria, would get together some place in the USA, to connect, share stories, laugh and love each other! We grew up together, we’re babies together, graduated HS together! Now we are 4! I hope you knew how much we loved you, admired you, enjoyed you, loved spending time with you! You loved your family so much, and we loved hearing about each one, every year. I am so grateful I was blessed to call you cousin, but even more blessed to call you “soul friend” my Anam Cara. Until we meet again, we will all miss you, your laughter, your kindness, your generosity, your deep love for all of us. Our cousin reunions will never be the same, but we will have a joyous reunion, again, someday. Your grateful cousin, Gloria

My deepest sympathy and prayers to her loving family.
