Lois Gable

Lois Gable

March 11, 1926 – June 24, 2022

Lois was born on March 11, 1926, in Reed, Oklahoma.  It was a home birth.  She was raised in and around Mangum, Oklahoma where she met the love of her life, Willard Wayne Gable.  They married very young, before Wayne (as the family called him) went to serve in the Navy during WWII.  Lois joined him in San Diego, California after his basic training.  When he was deployed, Lois returned to Mangum, Oklahoma.  When the war ended, Wayne returned to his family in Mangum.  When work became sparse in Oklahoma, they would go to Oregon where jobs were more plentiful.  This back and forth from Oklahoma and Oregon continued until Sherian and Terri were in school.  They settled in Oregon where Vicki was born.

In 1963, they moved to California for Wayne to train to become a jet mechanic.  What they didn’t know was he could only take one class per week.  Their budget couldn’t accommodate that, so Wayne bought a truck and started hauling mobile homes.  He soon established his own trucking company, where Lois was the truck dispatcher.  She worked from home and was continually on the phone.  Their business flourished and they were able to sell and retire early.

They returned to Oregon to develop property they had purchased in Florence, Oregon, many years before.  They were there for several years before they decided they missed their children, who were all in California, and again made the move back to California.

They spent the rest of their years in or around the Modesto, California area.  Wayne preceded Lois in death in December 2020, just 8 months shy of his 100th birthday.  Lois was 96 when she passed on June 24, 2022.  They were married for 79 years.

Lois leaves the legacy of her family which include:

Daughter, Sherian Leane Good, Florida – spouse Gary Good.  Their children: Billy Moore, Florida – spouse Mary Moore, Bret Moore, Virginia, Michael Moore, deceased.

Daughter, Terri Cole, California – spouse Terry Cole. Their children: Lori Cole, California – spouse David Goforth, Kevin Cole, Oregon – spouse Robi Cole.

Daughter, Vicki Goodson, California – spouse John Goodson. Their children: Ryan Vannatta, Washington – spouse Sherran Vannatta, Brandon Vannatta, California – spouse Lacy Vannatta, Dawnita Castle, California – spouse David Castle, Dennis Goodson, California – spouse Maggie Goodson.

There are 9 grandchildren, 1 deceased grandchild and numerous great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister, Nelda Scoggins of Oklahoma.  She is preceded in death by her siblings: Alton Crump, Oregon, Jerla Bryant, Oklahoma and Mary Jo Thomas, Texas.

A funeral will be held at 10:00am on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Allen Mortuary, 247 N. Broadway in Turlock.  Lois will be laid to rest with her husband, Wayne, at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

What a wonderful Aunt, friend and buddy until the end. Aunt Lois was one of the main people in my life for all of my 71 years. I am so thankful for having this special lady love me and my family for our entire lives. I thank her and will always have her in my thoughts.
I am so thankful for all the many motor home trips and the valued time I got to spend with my Aunt Lois and Uncle Wayne. They were both the Best.
