Lorene was born in Turlock, CA to Enoch and Marie Christoffersen.  She was the oldest of four.  She always had the ability to organize huge events.  At the age of 14 she organized her parents 15th wedding anniversary without their knowledge inviting everyone from the church. Shortly after graduating from Turlock High School she was working for her father at Valchris Turkeys.

In 1950, she married Virgil Larson of San Francisco.  Together they raised turkeys for 50 years.  She also opened The Diet Center and had a very successful business helping people.  She loved to help others.  Most of all Lorene loved Jesus! She wanted everyone to know that Jesus died for them and to know Him personally.  Lorene and Virgil taught the young married class at Bethel Temple and they also worshiped at Monte Vista Chapel and were very active with their Sunday School class.  She also really enjoyed vacations, cross country skiing, and holidays with family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Virgil of 62 years, her parents and brother, Enoch Lloyd Jr.  She leaves her son Kent Larson of Jamestown, Tina Hall of Turlock; grandchildren Britni Willoughby, Brooke Selapack, Cody Hall, Colton Hall; and great granddaughter Lauren Selapack as well as many cousins.

Remembrances

  1. I have very loving memories of Lorene. Virgil & Lorene were our High School Leaders at Bethel Temple-fifty eight years ago! YIKES on one occasion, they generously and bravely opened up their cabin to us so we could all enjoy a weekend in the snow. Lorene planned & executed many fun filled events for us. Always very capable & in charge. Small, but mighty, that was Lorene. EXCEPT for one Car Wash Fundraiser. As I recall, cars were lined up waiting for a wash….but we were basically having a free for all water fight! I can still see her, eyes flashing, though still smiling, and hear her saying, “I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN”!!
As a young girl, I babysat Kent and Tina. I had many opportunities to observe Lorene and Virgil’s interaction. I admired the way they treated each other. Though both were strong and opinionated, they were kind, fun loving and affectionate to each other. A wonderful role model for a successful marriage.
Lorene was a Godly woman. She was inspiring, fun to be around, capable & adventurous! I see her now in heaven, smiling, eyes sparkling, praising Jesus and rejoicing with Virgil and her other loved ones.
I am lucky & blessed to have known her.

  2. What a lady! I loved her, and her love for Jesus was genuine and obvious to all who knew her. She loved people and travel and all that life had to offer. My only regret is that I didn’t know her better. She had much to teach and share.

  3. I hadn’t heard about Lorene for years. I have fond memories of her as she taught me how to play the Vibraharp when I was in the 4th grade. She was attending the First Methodist Church at that time and played the vibraharp for them. I bought her vibraharp and she purchased a new one. I played that instrument until I finished 8th grade and my parents punched a new one for me. She taught me all she knew and then I had to move on to another teacher. She was special to me and young when she taught me. God bless her years and condolences to her family.

  4. Lorene and her husband were the Young Married Sunday School teachers when I was a newly wed. She poured into my life by teaching the Bible and practical tips about living for God. I have many fond memories of the retreats they hosted and organized. I look forward to seeing her in Heaven!
