Mario “Mo” Sanchez – undeniably the biggest Yankees fan of all time, left for the big league on April 24, 2021 surrounded by family in Turlock, California. Mo was born on September 5th, 1974 in Oakland, California to Mario Sanchez & Sylvia Gonzales.
During his youth, memories were made on annual trips to Disneyland or Lake Tahoe while listening to Engelbert Humperdinck on 8-track. Mo graduated Patterson High School where he played baseball, basketball, and football. After high school Mo attended California State University, Stanislaus where he studied business. After college Mo worked at UPS, Oakland Airport. Mo worked for 18 years at AAA insurance company and most recently at Nelson and Jameson in Turlock.
In 2011 Mo was introduced to Aimee at the Newman Fall Festival Volleyball Tournament. Their connection was instant and they soon fell in love. Mo proposed on Christmas Eve 2014 and they wed in Lake Tahoe on June 6th, 2016. From cocktails and card games to road trips to Reno and Cambria, their relationship brought fun and laughter wherever they went. Mo often said that Aimee “is the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
Mo was a renowned wordsmith; known for inserting his personal wit in any conversation and penning an occasional soliloquy on Instagram. Mo was great conversationist and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, seriously though, he could talk to anyone about anything. He was a kind, genuine listener and always made sure others needs were met before his own. Mo was a man who everyone loved and he loved everyone back even harder.
If it was a Wednesday and you needed to find Mo, look no further than the River Oaks Golf Club. A connoisseur of bourbon, a bacon aficionado, and an admirer of any Family Guy episode; Mo had impeccable taste. Mo, a self-proclaimed die-hard Yankees fan, loved anything Yankees themed and his wardrobe is proof of that. Mo loved get-togethers and hosted an annual Kentucky Derby where friends and family drank mint julips and watched the ponies race.
Mo will be terribly missed by his family and loved ones. Mo was undeniably the best; the best father, friend, son, husband, brother, uncle, and papa. You are leaving a void that couldn’t be filled but you leave us with lessons and memories. This isn’t good bye – but a see ya later; we will meet one day on a warm beach with drinks in our hands.
Mo was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emiliano & Maria De Jesus Sanchez and Jesse Gonzales.
Mo is survived by his wife Aimee (AKA Mrs. Gallagher), children Hattie, Bo, Bailey, grandchildren Leila, Leo and his arch nemesis Daisy the shih tzu. Mo is also survived by his mother and father, his brother Jesse Sanchez, sister Yesenia Sanchez, brother-in-law Todd Hoos, nieces Leighanna Sanchez, Ashlee, Megan, and Isabel Hoos, and nephew Elijah Sanchez.
