Norman was born and raised in Modesto, California where he grew up working on the family farms and continued farming for the rest of his life.  In 1961 he married Louise Sigrist and together they shared 57 years of marriage.  He began custom farming for various farms, land leveling and raising over 1200 hogs.  Norman used his love and knowledge of animals to help kids with 4-H.  He was very involved during the fair with helping kids show hogs and was proud to see many of his hogs become grand champions.  His goal was always to help the 4-H kids learn and so he would sell them pigs at less than normal to make sure they could participate.

Family was very important to Norman and he would do anything to make sure that his family was taken care of.  He will be remembered for his soft demeanor and welcoming nature.  Lots of his children’s friends would call Louise and Norman “mom and dad” because they felt so cared for by them.

He is survived by his wife Louise Ann Martin; children Debbie (Bubba) Simnacher, Norman (Anita) Martin Jr., Tony (Caralene) Martin, Rodney (Melissa) Martin, Lori (Jimmy) Martin-Alexander; seven siblings; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.

Viewing will be held at Allen Mortuary on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 3:00-7:00p.m. Funeral service will also be at Allen Mortuary on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 1:00p.m. with burial to follow at Turlock Memorial Park.

Remembrances

  1. Rest In Peace Dad,
Enjoy your perfect ranch now, surrounded by the folks before you and the things you love…
Work those fields at leisure and enjoy those perfect sunsets.
Till we meet again… with Love, Anita

  2. Thank you Uncle Norman for being there for my ancestry stuff as much as you could be. I wish I could have known you more than I did, but things happened for a reason. I hope you are chatting it up with everyone that has gone before. I will see you one day again in the afterlife. Now you are really living life. Viva la Vida Tio.

  3. Dad, I wounded how I would feel when you were gone. So many of my friends have lost they’re parents and I always felt like the lucky one. Now that it’s here, I don’t much care for it. This is going to take some getting used to.
Who am I going to call now when I have that “Dad” question? Where do I go when I want to just talk?
Out of all the things you taught me, and there were many, the one thing I will always remember and use everyday is the glass is always half full.
I’m sure going to miss those talks, those jokes, those projects, those fun day trips just because. I will always cherish our time we shared. From that 7 year old boy learning how to drive that tractor in the fields to where I am today with all your knowledge and help.
I hope that ranch in heaven is as beautiful as we have been told.
Sure gonna miss you, Love ya Jr.
