    The Ride

    Riding along these country roads,
Familiar, yet different from long ago
Warm breeze, life at a standstill
    Moving slow

These rides my father always asked to go on,
One of the very few pleasures he had left
    in this world.

“Let’s get an ice-cream” he would say
A treat he looked forward to.

I think of times I really didn’t want to go
    on this mundane ride again,
Yet I knew deep down how much joy
    it brought to his day.
    He’d say “that was a good ride – I haven’t
been that way in a while”.

Acres of corn waving under the hot
    summer sun,
    almond blossoms in the spring,
    green fields after the rain,
    cattle grazing.

I began to actually enjoy these quiet
rides with him, little moments shared
reminding myself to savior the simplicity
of the little things in life.

I’ve come to miss these daily country
    rides with my dad
    I wish I could’ve taken him one
    more time….

Uncle Bob”¦ I have many family gathering memories of you when I was younger at Grandmas house”¦ talking and sitting in the backyard”¦. Playing cards after dinner to name a few. You always said hi, you were kind and gentle. I enjoyed that. Rest peacefully with Aunt Delores, Glady and Grandma and Grandpa. Til we meet again someday. Xoxo
