Robert Clifton Baughan

Robert Clifton Baughan

July 4, 1947 – September 9, 2019

Robert Baughan was born on 4th of July in 1947, and because of this date, his family nicknamed him
“Sparky.” Rob grew up in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, and always bragged that he grew up in the town on
which Mayberry was based (from The Andy Griffith Show). Rob was an only child. His mother, Carrie
Mae Swaim from North Carolina, passed away when he was a teenager. After high school Rob joined the
Air Force and started his radio career. He worked as a DJ for the Armed Forces Radio. Rob’s father, Frank
Baughan, also from North Carolina, passed away while Rob was in the military.

Upon leaving the military he continued with his radio career where he DJ-ed at various stations around
the country. For most of the stations he was “Rob Sherwood.” He ended his radio career here in
California. Rob, who was now going by “Rob Kacey,” was half of the team of Rob and Carol in the
Morning at KO93/B93 in Modesto in the early 1990s, with Carol Benson being the other half. He then
moved to KJOY in Stockton and from there he retired.

Rob had been doing voice-over work his entire career and he had a talent for impersonations including
Warner Brother cartoon characters, Ronald Reagan, Peter Falk, and numerous others. You never knew
which character would greet you on his answering machine. Rob had voiced many local and a few
national commercials including Woods Furniture in Turlock: “Take a Walk in the Woods” slogan; Pepsi
Mini-Cans; Slater Brothers Furniture; and more. He was heavily involved with the Hershey Chocolate
Festival in Oakdale. He also emcee’d numerous New Year’s Eve parties around Modesto and Stockton.

In 1993, Rob met Michelle Toupin, currently of Turlock. They married and had a daughter, Kacey
Rochelle Baughan. Kacey currently lives in Southern California.

Rob passed away at his home in Stockton on September 9, 2019. Because Rob was in the Air Force, the
family will be pursuing a ceremony for the interment of his ashes at San Joaquin Valley National
Cemetery in Santa Nella, California. If you wish to receive more information regarding this ceremony,

Rob was a “fixture” friend. He came to all the parties and all the brunches and dinners. He had great funny things to say. I will miss him immensely.
