Russ Richards

September 29, 1946 – June 26, 2020

Russ was born on Sept 29, 1946 in Modesto, California and grew up in Roberts Ferry.  He attended Roberts Ferry School, Oakdale High School, MJC, and Cal Poly.  After college he married Joan Hinton who would be his wife for 54 years.  He originally worked for Triple A Shipyard and PG & E Oakland, Asbills Modesto, Waterford Farm Supply, but found his passion and calling with Stanislaus County Fire from 1969 – 2002.

His hobbies included: travel, sports photography for Waterford High School, HAM operator, loved gardening, cooking, the ocean, camping, and being at his cabin and with his family.

He is survived by his loving and proud family which include: his wife, Joan Hinton, daughters Debbie Correia and Tina Fower, brother Bill Richards, sisters Jeanne Kampen and Lee Clipper, grandsons Nicholas Correia, wife Rachel, Blake Correia, Zachary Fowler, Garrett Fowler, and wife Jillian, Russell Richards Fowler, and great granddaughter Emily Correia.

A public memorial service for Russ will be planned at a later time.

  1. Russ was a great servant to the stanislaus county fire dept. and a great mentor to my career as a fire figther. my he rest in peace.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss of Russ Richards. I have such fond memories of Russ (Rusty as I knew him then). We were in the same grade (with seven or eight students) for all eight years at Roberts Ferry Elementary School. His positive personality, always smiling and complimentary, will be greatly missed.
