Richard was born in San Diego, California to Richard Lovell and Beatrice Louise (Robbins) Dickinson. He passed away at the age of 85 in Modesto, California. In his young adult years he attended San Jose Junior College and worked for Lockheed Missile and Space. Richard retired in 2002 from Xerox. He met his first wife Carol Gossett at Saratoga Baptist Church in 1961 and they had four children. Later, in 1994, he met his second wife Marilyn McGarvey and together they enjoyed 28 years of marriage.
Richard’s hobbies included working in his yard, collecting 1950s model cars and listening to 50’s music. He also enjoyed spending time working on cars, frequently washing them to make sure his vehicles were pristine. He loved traveling with his travel trailer throughout his life. Most of all, Richard treasured time spent with his family. He was proud of his grandchildren and the fact that two of them served in the military.
Richard leaves behind his wife Marilyn Dickinson; children Tamie Cota, Wendy (Todd) Horton, Michelle Ackley and Daniel (Lorrie) Dickinson; step children Joel McGarvey and Jennifer (Matt) Fitzgerald; grandchildren David Cota, Jacquelyn Harris, Spencer Harris, Ryan Ackley, Rylie Ackley, Ethan Ackley, Brandon Ackley, Joseph Dickinson, Joshua Dickinson, Jacob Dickinson, Jesse Dickinson, Jente McGarvey, Sven McGarvey, Chaya McGarvey and Aaron McGarvey, Micah (Abbey) Fitzgerald, Luke (Ana) Fitzgerald, Joshua Fitzgerald, ; great grandchildren Tatum Bussard, Charley Fitzgerald, and Ben Fitzgerald.
Funeral service will be at Allen Mortuary on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 1 PM with burial to follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
