Helen Loretta Madsen June 29, 1937 - December 13, 2023

Date of Service

December 22, 2023

Helen Loretta (Wheat) Madsen, a cherished wife of James (Jim) Madsen for 50 years, peacefully departed this life on December 13, 2023, to walk with Jesus. Born in Fabins, Texas on June 29, 1937, Helen was the beloved daughter of P. Calvin and Bertha Wheat. She was welcomed into the world by her siblings Jean Van Houten, Lawrence (Larry) Wheat, Lois Maxey, then followed by Ann Winn, and James Wheat, forming a close-knit family of six.

Helen’s profound joy stemmed from her family. She and Jim nurtured and raised seven children together: Mike Bidwell, Pamela Carr, John (Tamera) Madsen, Bennie Bidwell, Christopher (Brenda) Madsen, Colby (Annette) Madsen, and Timothy (Carri) Madsen. Her legacy extended beyond her children, as she lovingly embraced the roles of grandmother to 13 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 17. Helen’s immense love and unwavering support were the cornerstones of her family’s lives.

Devoting much of her time to enriching her family’s experiences, Helen actively participated in various activities. She was a dedicated 4-H leader, passionately involved in FFA, and generously served as a Cub Scout and Den Mom. Alongside Jim, she dedicated countless hours to the local Moose Lodge, where she held the esteemed position of Senior Regent. Weekends were often spent organizing campouts and BBQs, sharing her talents and enthusiasm for life with friends and family.

Helen’s love for her family and zest for life were beautifully reflected in her hobbies. She found joy in crocheting, cake decorating, and lending a helping hand at the local florist.  Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of many, yet her memory will endure as a beacon of a life lived with purpose and love.

Helen’s heart was woven with strong ties to her faith and church, where her presence was deeply felt. Her commitment to her beliefs served as a guiding light in her life, radiating love, compassion, and strength to those around her.

In honor of Helen’s legacy, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Memorial Medical Center’s Foundation’s Complimentary Cancer Treatment Fund.

Your contribution will ensure that Helen’s compassionate spirit continues to make a difference in the lives of others. The following link will direct you to their donation site:
