Basilio “Basil” Amesquita Jr.
February 13, 1949 – February 14, 2026
Basil was born in Turlock, California and passed away at the age of 77. He served in the Army in Vietnam War from 1969-1971 and received multiple awards including an award for Heroism. Basil was a proud member of various organizations such as the Modesto VFW Post 3199 (serving as commander over multiple years), American Legions GI Forum, Stanislaus Veterans Committee and Cootie’s. He was honored to be a part of the Honor Guard, that was a joint group from the Modesto VFW, Ceres American Legion and Ceres VFW. He was a dedicated brother always doing what he could to help any fellow Veteran. Basil enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and friends. He was an honest man, with a heart of gold, who loved his family and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife Frances Amesquita; children Shannen (Doug) Mattingly, Donna Amesquita and Lindsey (Raymond) Amesquita-Gallagher; sister Alice Williams; sister in law Marlene Amesquita; brother in law Julius Emery; grandchildren Raine (Alex) Reynaga, Lily (Christopher Certuche) Amesquita-Gallagher, Raymond Gallagher Jr., and Logan Mattingly; great grandchildren Faith Reynaga, Noah Reynaga, Shiloh Reynaga, Anayah Reynaga, Camila Certuche, Christopher Certuche Jr., and Baby Certuche; nieces and nephews Buddy Amesquita, , Brant Williams Jr., D’Ann Briones, Janea Peeples, Cole Cavaggion, Cara Anderson, Christie Nelson, Les’Leigh Valk and Ian Valk.
Basil was preceded in death by his parents Basilio and Ofelia Amesquita; siblings David Amesquita Sr., Phyllis Emery and Linda Amesquita; niece Ofelia Emery and his dog Mijos.
Viewing will be held at Allen Mortuary on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 4:00-6:00p.m. with the rosary to begin at 6:00p.m. Funeral service will be held at Allen Mortuary on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 10:00a.m. Interment will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:00a.m.
