Bill Sims, 84, of Turlock, California, died on July 17, 2023 in Hughson, California. Born on April 30,1939 in Washington, OK, Bill was the sixth of nine children of the late William Jasper and Edna Wilma Sims. Raised in Chowchilla, California, Mr. Sims joined the United States Navy in 1956 and served on the USS Princeton.
Living in Southern California after his service in the Navy, Bill met and married his wife Lynda in 1962. Moving to Turlock in 1976, he became a licensed painting contractor and developer; building, owning and managing residential and business properties in Turlock and Salisbury, North Carolina.
Bill believed in supporting his community in many different ways. He was a 4-H parent volunteer. He was a member of the Turlock High School Quarterback club. Bill donated his time as a professional consultant for the McHenry Mansion restoration, as well as the Turlock High School Student Construction program. He supported Turlock Junior Miss and Boy Scouts working on various projects. Bill volunteered to be president of Turlock American/American East Little League and sponsored many baseball, basketball, and soccer teams over the years.
At a young age, he spent time on the Monterey Bay learning how to deep sea fish from his father. As an adult, Bill fished the waters from Alaska to the coast of Chile with his father and brothers.
He is survived by his wife Lynda, daughter Suzette (Lewis), son Wm. Michael (Shelly), grandchildren: Steven, Michael (Haley), Cole, Hannah (Nick), and Jacob,four great grandchildren: Gavin, Grayson, Arya, and Miliana, and two bonus great grandchildren: Emma and Dylan, and sister Fay Hood.
