Bruce Douglas Strickland was born on May 31, 1937 in Berkeley, CA to Omar and Ruth Strickland. At a young age, Bruce and family moved to Turlock. He attended Roselawn Elementary School and graduated from Turlock High School in 1955. Bruce was very active in FFA, winning multiple awards, and the State Fair, winning many ribbons.
Bruce attended Modesto Jr. College. He married Roberta (“Bertie”) Vargas on February 4, 1962. He farmed with his father starting at the age of 14 until moving to Willows, CA in 1981 to farm rice.
After selling their property in Willows, Bruce and Bertie relocated just down the road to Hamilton City, CA where they started a trucking business, with Bertie working right by his side.
Bruce’s illness resulted in their relocation to Turlock in 2021 to be closer to family.
Bruce passed away peacefully at Emanuel Medical Center on Feb. 8, 2023, with his wife and two daughters by his side. He is survived by his wife Bertie, two daughters Tena (Dave) Falkenberg and Holly Barragan; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his brother Stan (Carol) Strickland of Grover Beach, CA, Chuck (Penney) Shabazian of Turlock, CA, Juan Rosa and family of Willows, CA, and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held at Allen Mortuary on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 9:00a.m. Funeral to follow at 10:00a.m., also at Allen Mortuary.
